Joining the Commonwealth Secretariat Staff Credit Union is about more than getting access to savings and low rates on loans. You are becoming a member of a organisation dedicated to assisting it’s members financially. There is a one-off enrolment/administrative fee of £5.00 for new members.

Membership of the Credit Union is open to all permanent employees of the Commonwealth Secretariat and other approved Commonwealth bodies, ex-employees who were Credit Union members at the time of leaving, and spouses of current members of the Credit Union. The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) (http://www.fscs.org.uk/) is the UK’s statutory compensation scheme for customers of authorised financial services firms. FSCS can pay compensation if a firm is unable, or likely to be unable, to pay claims against it.

FSCS is an independent body, set up under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA), and funded by a levy on firms authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority. The scheme covers deposits, insurance policies, insurance brokering, investments, mortgages and mortgage arrangement.
